Baaba Andoh recounts how a search for her estranged father’s blessing on her marriage instead led to threats of a forced marriage and female genital mutilation. Fleeing Ghana, she sought protection in the United States, where she faced another struggle within the immigration system. Her first-person account, interwoven with images and sounds of Ghana, gives a personal dimension to the pursuit of safety and the difficulty of being heard.
