Set in Algiers in 1938, this film follows Meursault, a quiet and detached man in his early thirties, who attends his mother's funeral without showing any emotion. The next day, he begins an affair with his colleague Marie and falls back into his routine, but his life is disrupted by his neighbor, Raymond Sintès, who draws him into his shady affairs. A fateful event occurs on a scorching hot day at the beach, leading to Meursault's trial where he is judged not for his actions, but for his unemotional demeanor. Based on Albert Camus' world-famous novel, the film explores whether one can be condemned to death for not crying at their mother's funeral.
